The Gold Rush
Timeline:
- 1861: 'Gold discovered on the Stikine River near Telegraph Creek'("Timelines " ).
- 1872: Around British Columbia and Sitka gold is found.
- 1876: Windham Bay, South of Juneau, gold is spotted.
- 1897-1899: The Yukon Gold Rush.
- 1900: 'Stampede of gold-seekers to Nome'("Timelines " ).
- 1902: 'Gold discovered near Fairbanks'("Timelines " ).
Summary:
The Gold Rush all started in 1861, in the Stikine River where gold was first found in Alaska. Then in 1872 it was seen again around British Columbia and Sitka. Following with it being seen again in Windham Bay, South of Juneau. Word of the gold was then sent to Seattle and California this news brought upon the Yukon Gold Rush. Where thousands of men traveled to the Klondike region, through hard to mange mountain passes carrying a large pack on their backs (see photo on left). A lucky few became super rich from this process of gold prospecting, but most went home empty handed. This rush ended in 1899 because of gold being found in Nome, tons more then in the Klondike.
