Territorial Alaska
Timeline:
In 1912, Alaska becomes its own territory, creating its own legislature as well. Then in 1913, women are given the right to vote by a law passed in the first legislature meeting in Alaska. As well as in 1920 Anchorage puts together it's first 'city government'("Timelines " ). Furthermore in 1935 a law was passed and put in Chapter 77, about how certain areas can create their own 'Independent School Distract'("Timelines " ). The only relegations is that it must 'not exceed 250 square miles'("Timelines " ) of the distract.
The in 1956, the Alaska Constitution is accepted by the voters of the territory. Meaning that they had written their own Constitution and it was now in full effect for the growing territory. This same year, 'two senators (William Egan and Ernest Gruening) and one representative (Ralph J. Rivers) were sent to Washington D.C. under the Tennessee Plan'("Timelines " ). These three had been voted upon and appointed by the territorial governor. They were not given a seat though and could not put any input on anything decided upon but they were allowed to lobby for Alaska becoming a state.
